Through The Storm: From Anonymous

To all of those who are going through the storm… The best thing that I can say to you is to never give up! I tried giving up at many different points in my life. It took those times for me to realize that giving up is actually the worst decision you can make. Things were awful, yes. I was struggling, yes. However, it wasn’t until I attempted (mentally and physically) to ‘throw in the towel’ that I realized just how much I was actually giving up on. You can’t change the past, you can’t know your future…. But you CAN change the present moment. Even when it seems impossible and seems as if the entire world is against you, you have the power within you to survive. And once you do, you’ll come out a warrior and be able to thrive. It may not be easy, but it’s more than worth it! So please please NEVER GIVE UP! The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it! And no matter how alone you may feel at times, you are not. Millions of us struggle. Someday, after you’ve not given up and you’ve survived….. Your struggle will be part of your story. And you can then help others that are in the midst of their own storm. “Helping one person may not change the world, but it may change the world for one person”.

We understand we sometimes need more support than writing and reading letters. We all experience hard times. But you are not alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, there are many forms of support. If you or a loved one is in immediate danger, call 911. It is important to notify the operator that it is a psychiatric emergency and ask for an officer trained to assist people experiencing a psychiatric emergency.
